List of Chief Officers

It has been difficult to research the history of Chief Officers. There are documents which contradict each other and untold amount of empty records. This has not been helped by the fact that MSC Chiefs have changed their title over the years, from 'Chief Staff Officer' to 'Chief Commandant' and 'Chief Officer.' Therefore, it should be known, that while every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of this list, there may be a chance of inaccuracies. Contributors shall continue to research this topic and updated accordingly.

It is, nonetheless, important to appreciate the men and women who gave up their time to lead the remarkable rank and file of the volunteer force. It is often forgotten that the Chiefs are also volunteers, with other jobs and commitments. The contributors of this blog wish to thank them for their service and leadership.

In undertaking such research, the most useful tool has been the Friends of the Metropolitan Police Heritage Charity's Metropolitan Police Historical Timeline. We wish to also thank them for their amazing work in maintaining such important historical documents.
